Small scale commercial wind turbines
There are two different types of wind turbine available on the market – the horizontal axis and the vertical axis. The horizontal axis wind turbine use angular propeller type blades to generate energy from the wind which results in the spinning motion. The vertical axis wind turbines spin on a central point and do not have to be re-positioned to gain maximum energy from the wind.
Wind turbines work in the opposite way to a fan, which uses electricity to generate wind. The turbines use the wind to blow the blades which are attached to a generator that creates the energy.
The amount of energy generated depends on the wind speeds at the location of the wind turbine. This can be affected by the gradient in the land and the surfaces the wind has to travel over. Wind directions change frequently which means the horizontal axis turbine has to move with the wind. This often uses up energy to turn the blades to face the wind. The vertical axis wind turbine is designed to stay in one position and will generate energy from all wind directions. This makes it the ideal design to work in urban areas where wind directions are often changing.
Elite Renewables are proud to be a quietrevolution authorised distributor for their elegant and award winning qr5, the only MCS certified vertical axis wind turbine available. We are also an authorised reseller of quietrevolution's hy5, a MCS certified, 5kW horizontal axis wind turbine, that offers small payback times, operation at multiple windspeeds, and high power output.
